KAWBO is a partner with the SPARC Program and is co-hosting the 2015 Annual SPARC Regional Meeting which will be held in Nairobi, Kenya from July 20-23, 2015. This year’s theme is;

 ‘Women – Key to Africa’s Economic Competitiveness’

Some of issues that will be discussed include:
  • The role of women leaders’ current and potential involvement in the economic development of Africa.

With generous support from the Netherlands Ministry of Foreign Affairs’ Funding Leadership Opportunities for Women (FLOW) Program, Vital Voices Global Partnership launched the Supporting Public Advocacy for Regional Competitiveness (SPARC) program in 2012, to increase women’s economic engagement in labor force and entrepreneurship, and to create a more enabling environment for women’s economic engagement and greater poverty alleviation throughout Sub-Saharan Africa.

SPARC works in 4 countries across Africa with local partners to address legislative, procedural, or policy barriers to women’s full economic engagement. The partners are; The Women in Management, Business and Public Service (WIMBIZ), Nigeria, The Business Women Association, (BWA), South Africa, The Uganda Women Entrepreneurs Association (UWEAL), Uganda and The Kenya Associaton of Women Business Owners (KAWBO)

The SPARC Annual Regional Meeting convenes Vital Voices and its partners every year to provide space for the exchange of experiences, common challenges, and successful strategies in economic advocacy, as well as the provision of tailored advocacy-related training.
